Congress leader Narayan Rane’s son Nitesh Rane has been alleged to have fired at Chintu Shaikh, a Swabhimaan activist on Thursday. He has been held up under attempt to murder charges.This incident took place at the organisation’s Khar office. It is reported that the bullet hit the victim’s cheek. Shaikh is a worker at the public transport union wing of Swabhimaan called Vahtuk Sangathana.Amitabh Gupta Additional commissioner of police (west region) said, “We have registered a case against Nitesh under section 307 [attempt to murder] of the Indian Penal Code.”According to police sources, Shaikh said to police that he was distributing sweets at the NGO’s office because his wife delivered a baby boy. Some of the activists were against the sweets distribution and an argument started, following which Nitesh allegedly shot a bullet which hit a bulletproof glass pane and bounced back and hit Shaikh’s cheek.Nitesh denied all charges against him saying, “I learnt about the incident after I came out of a business meeting when I started getting calls from journalists. I tried to contact Shaikh and found that he was admitted to Hiranandani Hospital.
